The project. September 2012 - April 2013
Spanish
Report
Last
September we began
our Comenius Project called “Teenagers between the culinary tradition and Fast
food”. We organised the Comenius team in
the school and began to work in the project. We presented it in the teachers’
meeting “Claustre de professors” , “Consell Escolar” and in the parents’
meeting at the beginning of the school year.
Then the parents interested in allowing their sons to take part in it,
had a second meeting with the coordinator of the project and signed a contract.
This year we have offered an optional subject called “Comenius” for the
students of the 3rd year of ESO interested in the project.
Activities organised at the school in October
The
students of Baccalaureate had a lecture and workshops organized by Khepra, an
institution with deals with problems caused by unhealthy eating habits. A nutritionist came to our school and
organised a workshop in order to make students aware of the importance of
having healthy habits. Some tips were given to our students in order to improve
their eating habits. The students of the 3rd Year of ESO went to
visit the “ el bus de la alimentación””healthy food bus”. It was an exhibition about healthy eating
habits organized by Caixa Catalunya . A
guide explained the students the importance of eating healthily. Our students
of the 3rd year of ESO went there and the parents too.
MEETINGS
Our first
meeting was in Romania in November(30th October -3 November), but only for
teachers,15 in total:2 from Spain, Pilar Belloc and Darío Castro. In Romania we
worked in the project. First, we presented our school, educational system,
country, talked about how to increase awareness among the students and how to
encourage them to eat healthily. We
could taste the traditional Romanian dishes and know about its culinary culture. We visited the
different fast food restaurants of the city. We decided the dates of the
visits. .We looked for a name for the project and launched the blog with the
name “Mum’s food or fast food” We designed the tasks to be done by the students
for the Italian meeting. “A questionnaire about fast food or traditional food
In November, we organised a logo contest in each school and the Spanish logo designed by Félix and
Antonio Guijarro was the winner. The
students of the 3rd year of ESO of the optional subject Comenius
began to interview the rest of the students of the school, made the graphs and
wrote the conclusions. These tasks are
shown on our Comenius blog, created by the Spanish team, and in the Virtual
Guide done by the Portuguese team. The
students tried to analyse the kind of food served in our local fast food
restaurants and show the rest of the school the dangers of eating that kind of
food.
In December,
the students prepared the presentation of the school and their own
presentations for the next meetings. We
made a selection of the students who were going to the mobilities.
There was a meeting with the families of the students
who were going to Italy.
In January, we
began to create the portfolios. Each
student was responsible of a task.
The students presented the results of the questions
and their work and tried to make students aware of eating healthily.
In our second meeting in Italy in
February, 2 teachers (Pilar Belloc and Jordi Coll) and the students ( Kathy
Narváez, Félix Guijarro and Brenda Román) presented their tasks to the other
Comenius partners, saw the twins’ presentations and analyse the similarities
and differences. We talked about the blog design, the virtual guide and the
photo album. They could also appreciate the delicious Italian cuisine, visit a
pasta, a cookie and a yogurt factory.
When they came back, they presented all the tasks
shown in Italy and tried to make the rest of students aware of the importance of
healthy habits.
In
March the students of
the 1st year of Baccalaureate studied the food Pyramid and healthy
eating habits in the Science subject and made a comparative study between what
they eat and what they should eat.
Unfortunately most of their pyramids were unhealthy examples, because
our students don’t eat much fruit, vegetables, etc. and they really eat many
sweets, chips, etc. But it made the
students think about what they should eat if they don’t want to have health
problems in their lives.
All those
materials prepared for the next meeting were sent to the Portuguese team in
charge of the Virtual Guide.
In the meeting in Turkey,14-21 April, Patricio Analuiza, a
student of Baccalaureate presented the comparative study made in the science
class. Our students who went to the
meeting ( Patricio Analuiza, Tony Guijarro, Sergio Díaz, Isabel Serrano and
Alba Löpez) could see their partners’ work and conclusions and compare the
different cultures. They could know a
different culinary culture, country and be better aware of the importance of
improving their eating habits. We also
decided the new tasks to do, for example a Pyramid contest in all the
schools. Now we are designing the
pyramids and it is a good task to make students raise awareness of their eating
habits.
All the
students’ tasks are presented in powerpoint and can be seen in our school
website and on the blog. In the students’ portfolio we can see the individual
work of each student. They work in teams
and everyone has an important role in each task. They work in a cooperative way. All the
Comenius students explain their work and tasks to the rest of the students of
the school in the English class, so they try to make the others aware of the
importance of eating healthily. On Saint
George’s day we gave the diplomas to the students who had been to the meetings
and during the ceremony we showed a powerpoint presentation of the meetings in
Italy and Turkey to the rest of the students of our school.
All the
activities are on the web of the school: www.iesjoanmiro.com and there
was an article in the school magazine too.
To sum up, I
want to say that this project is helping our students be aware of the
importance of having healthy eating
habits and we hope that when it finishes, they will have change and improve
their habits.
