TEENAGERS THROUGH CULINARY TRADITION AND FAST FOOD

We have begun a Comenius multilateral school partnership project with seven schools from: Poland, Italy, Romania, Portugal, Greece, Turkey and Spain. This project began in September 2012 and will finish in July, 2014. Our first meeting was in Romania, in November, 2012, where we decided to create a general blog called “Mum's food or fast food? “and it will be the place where we are going to post all the photos, comments, activities mentioned in our application form, such as the album of the project, Grandma's recipes, the healthy eating guide and the new ones we decide to do.
The aim of this project is to make student aware of the importance of having healthy eating habits. So during this project we are going to focus on the following objectives: to define and understand the meaning of healthy eating, to rediscover the culinary tradition of each country and to know  other cultures through their culinary tradition. The target language will be English.
The project aims to involve teenagers in a debate with the topic of intercultural food style of young generation and the consequences in cultural identity’s field. Students from partner institutions will be helped by coordinators teachers to explore the issues of unhealthy food, and probe the medical, social and cultural implications. They will oppose two concepts, (food type) fast food and culinary tradition, understand the break that happens in the individual mind by assimilating artificial culture that tends to become universal food code.
The teens will reflect on their food preferences, the culinary tradition and family backgrounds. They will explore areas related to nutrition, food technologies, traditional and ecological agriculture they will also confront cultures and traditions by extending the dining experience in partner countries.
Each partner will initiate an investigation in two directions: a foray into the fast -food that will give the possibility to study chemical compounds used in preparing menus (will talk with nutritionists and sociologists, will confront opinions and ideas.
On the other hand, it will be  a culinary journey in the region to which it belongs, approaching  tradition and customs. The students will be invited by a family that keeps cultural tradition of the place. There they can assist to the preparation of a traditional menu, they will taste the products and  find recipes, ingredients,   traditional ways to  prepare food and natural conservation of food .
These experiences will be shared within   the project visits, on the web site and materialized in the final products (European guide of healthy menus, book of traditional recipes , brochures,
This project will help students improve their English competence, raise awareness of belonging to a common European culture and know their own culture and their partners’.   We will also promote culinary and cultural traditions, having easy access to the results obtained in the partnership.
